Human Resource development is one of the major objectives of Rehabilitation Council of
India. Diploma in Special Education is an important step towards generating teachers to
promote and facilitate full and equal enjoyment of child rights and fundamental freedoms
from pre-school to primary level. The said course envisages addressing the special needs of
children who are Deaf & Hard of Hearing so as to achieve the national goal.
Overall Aim and General Objectives of the Course Aims and Objectives are set with special reference to children hearing impairment.The D.Ed. in Special Education course aims to develop professionals for special education
within a broad framework of education in the current millennium. The course will enable
pre-service teachers to acquire knowledge, develop competencies and practice skills to
impart education to Deaf & Hard of Hearing children.
DHLS--
Diploma course in Hearing,Language & Speech(DHLS):
This course is aimed at training lower level functionaries in the area of hearing, language and speech.
The course is designed as a comprehensive and practical oriented programme. The main objective of
the course is to generate Speech and Hearing Technicians to take up routine clinical work of
assessment and therapeutic management for various speech, language and hearing disorders at
village, block/taluka and town levels. Wherever possible they will work under the guidance of a
fully trained graduate or a postgraduate Speech & Hearing clinician. However, in the absence of such
trained personnel they will be able to execute the routine clinical services.
DURATION OF THE PROGRAMME:One academic year consisting of 10 working months
excluding examination days.
Education Qualification:10 + 2 pass or its equivalent pass with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, & Mathematics.& Age: Minimum 17 Years.
B.Ed.(HI)
Bachelor of Education:
Recognized by Rehabilitation Council of India, New Delhi.
Affiliated with Shivaji University, Kolhapur.

The B.Ed.Spl.Ed. programme aims to develop Special Education teachers/Educators for
children with disabilities for various settings (including Inclusive, Special, Open School and
Home Based Education). The B.Ed. (Special Education) programme will prepare human
resources to enable them to acquire knowledge and develop competencies and skills to impart
education and training effectively to children with disability as well as all other children and
this being teachers for all children. After completing the B.Ed. (Special Education)
programme the student-teachers will:Acquire knowledge & skills about human development, contemporary Indian
education, and pedagogy of various school subjects and assessment for learning.
Develop conceptual understanding of education provisions and skills for working with
children with various disabilities in Special and inclusive settings.

he CRE Program is an important aspect of RCI to update the knowledge and skills of the professionals so as to provide quality services to the people with disabilities. This aspect is carried out through workshops, seminars, short-term refresher courses, orientation programs which are supported by RCI. Associations/ Institutions from Govt. / Non Govt. organizations are supported to conduct programmes for the benefit of professionals. RCI has been working with commitment to improve the standards of education of and training in the field of rehabilitation.
